Why is this project needed?
At present the world finds itself in a period of serious changes. We are in a process of transformation and development on all levels. The continuous degradation of the environment is a major element of a crisis of civilization and is due to people’s intervention in the nature. There is one constant thought for each rational person: preparing and teaching how to protect the nature even from early stages. Given the open-mind and receptivity which students show, it is time to make them look carefully at everything which surrounds them!
Nowadays teenagers are a vulnerable target to the negative influence of the modern society. The Eco & Art project comes as a rescue from the vices of the society. The eco and green messages transmitted through the means of the project mirror the world with its beauties and imperfections. They encourage students to reflect more over the need to protect the environment.
The Eco & Art is a domain of the cultural life situated at the cross border between the artistic trends and ideas of waste recycling. The activities contribute to raising awareness towards the necessity of a responsible interaction of man with the environment.
This project is mainly needed as the curriculum related to Natural Sciences deals mostly with offering students a rather theoretical approach which does not raise students’ interest. They might be aware of the need to protect and preserve the environment but they are not actually involved in practical activities. Therefore, this project allows them to get in touch with a new type of experience. For instance, “Our priceless Planet” activity includes a scientific competition which aims at the consolidation of scientific research skills. Also, the activities related to art and the workshops have as main purpose the development of creativity and that of the aesthetic sense. Moreover, the eco campaigns and the “Invent and recycle” campaign help students gain a civic attitude towards the environment and the community. Throughout the entire project students develop and improve their ICT skills as well as their English skills. As the language for communication is English, students and teachers improve their language skills but also learn about the other cultures, values or traditions from the partner countries involved in the project.
In this context, each and every thing students experience or do, however small and unimportant as it might seem, they all contribute to the shaping of their character and that of the human personality. Shaping students’ personality is the noblest piece of art that teachers might ever “paint”!
